The Best Newborn Photographer in the World

    Iconic newborn photographers

First, let me shout out to Anne Geddes and Ana Brandt, two of the most iconic newborn photographers (there are lots more, but these deserve mention).

As a London Newborn photographer who spent eight years almost exclusively working with newborns to create those dreamy posed and sleepy newborn shots, I know how hard it is to hone your craft, especially when you may want to stand out from the rest.

I’ve always respected the newborn photographers who paved the way, so it’s important to shout out to Ana and Anne.

Even though I have moved away from those 100% sleepy posed sessions where the newborn is posed and sleepy in all shots, My current work has now morphed and evolved with my change in artistic direction. Still, it wouldn’t be what it is now without working closely with newborns for many years.

So, Who is the best Newborn Photographer in the world?

I hear this often in my circles and have so much to say about this.

    Hear me out….

We live in a time when people are looking for the best destinations, restaurants, builders, doctors, surgeons, you name it. We are all guilty of this, and I’m not surprised.

    • We have the world at our fingertips, and we are pack animals. So this means we can research online using Google, Instagram (and every other social media, too!)

    • We also ask our friends and our community, and we hunt and search to find what we need or want.

    • We can continue until we think we’ve found what we're looking for. We all do it, a little or a lot, but we all tend to do it to some degree.

I get it; we want the best, so we search and compare until we find what we want. Why wouldn't we? However, being listed as one of 5 amazing Newborn Photographers in London made me think about how different we all are. It made me wonder. What exactly constitutes “amazing”?

I think it’s down to the individual because just as I am not for everyone, there will be other photographers on that list who are also not for everyone.

What about having a photographer that is the best for you?

How do we go from finding the best Photographer to finding the best One for your family, your baby, and your needs?

Is that the same as finding the best Photographer in the world? Maybe or not, but if the Photographer is a good fit for you, you will appreciate this more than you know. Take it from me.

The best is subjective - right?

We all know it's pretty subjective (the best), so you and I may disagree on the best Newborn photographer in the World because we come from different places and have different tastes in style, and so on.

And to be completely frank, in my 11 years as a Newborn and Family Photographer, I have never really considered seriously who the best photographer is. Because it's personal, it's subjective, and for me, what I love can ebb and flow; it changes. As does my style and other artists' styles.

EVER THOUGHT YOU WERE GETTING THE BEST OF ANYTHING, BUT IT DIDN’T LIVE UP TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS?

    Erm, hell yeah.

The "best" cleaner isn't the best for me; what if we don't get along well?

In my experience, the best steak was not the best (this was my experience ten years ago, and I’m not naming any names here!). I’m a vegetarian now, so I can’t even go back to try it again, but honestly, I wouldn’t want to.

What if the best Nutritionist doesn't quite understand the unique impact of ethnicity and culture on my physical and mental health? If they are the best, is it a given that they should know all of that? Maybe another practitioner would be better for me. Ultimately, I will find the right person if I want to work on my physical and mental well-being properly.

How I create my best work

That said, I'm pretty open and honest. Because truthfully, my best work comes from a place of connection, honesty and trust (both ways). I wouldn't take on any photography work where I felt the connection and vibe were not working well.

And almost all of the time, things click, and everything works. People get to read a bit about me on my website before they get in touch to get a feel for what I'm like. And I get to do the same when I speak to them by email, text and phone.

Whilst some people will choose me as their Best newborn photographer in London, others will pick someone else.

And I'm not at all mad about that; I'm pleased! Everyone has someone that fits them better than another. The result will undoubtedly be better if they resonate with someone else. So I really can't be mad at all.

    The best photographer for you

So, if there is a chance I'm the best newborn photographer for you, or if I may be, let's play / chat/ connect.

Listen to your gut and trust your intuition.

But if I’m not the one for you, no worries at all.

I genuinely hope you find whatever you're looking for because there are some wonderfully talented photographers out there, so good luck in your search; I hope you find someone you love.
