5 reasons Why Newborn Photos are important

    Why are Newborn Photos important?

As a London Newborn Photographer, sometimes, I get asked questions like, what is Newborn Photography? Why is Newborn Photography Important? Or the big one: is a Newborn Photoshoot worth it?

I guess the short answer goes back to the word value.

For me, like anything in life, value is the thing that determines what something means to me. By value, I mean to say, does it bring meaning and joy or genuinely make a quantifiable difference to me? For me, where the answer is yes to these questions, they are valuable, so their importance is inflated.

When we place value in something, the price is not the determining or driving factor behind our decision-making. So whether something is worth it is a personal thing.

I place "value" in people, things, experiences and feelings. I also put a lot of value in photographs, moments in time, books, art, albums, etc., probably because I believe an image is much more than an image; it is a moment, an expression, an emotion, and art. So the value I place in photography and printing for me will be more than I put in other areas of my life. Therefore it is no surprise that Newborn Photography is essential for this London Newborn Photographer!

This leads me to share five reasons I think newborn photos are important. There are many more, but these were the ones I could come up with off the top of my head.

    1. You will never have this exact moment again

I generally don't mince my words. So, let me repeat this for the people at the back: you will never have this moment again. Time doesn’t stop for anyone; truthfully, your baby will only be a newborn for a short while.

This point is obvious, I know.

If you're unsure whether to do it, I would say don't if your heart isn't in it. But if a part of you wants it, know that if you go to the effort of having a session like this, you will have this moment captured forever, whilst they still look so tiny. And you will love them forever; your children will also see and hopefully love them when they are older.

    2. Take a minute to celebrate

Yes, this is an opportunity to celebrate a new life or new lives if you have multiple babes!

These images will serve to celebrate and remember this particular time, and you can feel good knowing that you are celebrating no matter how you feel or think about how you look.

I’m a mum of 2, and I am so thankful I have photographs of both my babes (with me in them, too) when they were brand new. No matter what you think, when you look back in 5,10, or 20 years, you will be thankful that you did this for your baby/babies and yourself.

    3. Your children will revisit the photographs repeatedly throughout their entire lives

These newborn portraits will be around forever if you and your family want them to be. You will revisit them repeatedly, as will your children in future years.

Imagine them at the age of 3, 6. 10, then teenagers going through an album or your phone to look at these images repeatedly. In adulthood, they will revisit them often and share them with their children, spouses, and grandchildren. Honestly, the love, memories and sheer momentum keep on going.

And as I'm writing this, I can feel a wave of emotion coming over me, reminding me that this is precisely why I do what I do, because I know I'm creating a history that matters in this generation now and the generations to follow.

    4. you’ll have photographs of you together(AND MORE!)

I mean, this one is pretty self-explanatory. I love getting those shots of the new family of 3,4 or 5.

    5. if you choose a professional whose style resonates, you will love the result.

In my 11 years as a Newborn and Family Photographer, I have found that I generally connect with people with similar tastes in things, aesthetics, etc. So basically, I get to create work I love for people who like similar things.

I’m pretty thankful for that because it makes me produce more and more of what I love and challenges me simultaneously - to create something uniquely special for each family I work with.
