What to Expect From an In-Home Newborn Photography Session in London (2025 Guide)

Whether you're in the thick of new motherhood or planning ahead, this guide is here to help you understand what an in-home newborn session really looks and feels like — especially if you're based in London or nearby.

Why Choose an In-Home Newborn Session?

There’s something undeniably powerful about being photographed in your own space. No rushing to a studio. No harsh lighting or unnatural setups. Just you, your baby, and the comfort of home.

Your sofa becomes the backdrop. Your bedroom, the sanctuary. Your real life — sleepy, beautiful, chaotic — becomes the story.

It’s about capturing this season exactly as it is, because it will pass faster than you can imagine.

When’s the Best Time to Book?

Most in-home newborn sessions happen within the first two weeks — typically between days 7–14. But honestly? There’s no strict rule.

What matters most is that you feel ready. Some parents prefer to wait a few weeks when baby is more alert. Others want to document those dreamy, sleepy early days.

Whenever we shoot, the goal is the same: to create something honest, loving, and deeply personal.

How Long Does an In-Home Session Last?

Sessions usually last between 1.5 and 3 hours. They’re designed to be unhurried so we can follow your baby’s rhythm — feeding, soothing, changing, cuddling.

We move slowly and intentionally. There’s always time to pause.

What Should We Wear?

Don’t overthink it. Soft, breathable textures and neutral tones usually photograph beautifully — but more than anything, you should feel like you.

You don’t need a full wardrobe overhaul. Just something that feels easy, comforting, and beautiful — even if that’s a robe or a favourite knit.

I’m here to help if you need guidance. And honestly? I’d always rather you show up looking like yourself than choose from a pre-set wardrobe. That’s where the real magic is.

What If My Home Isn’t “Perfect”?

It doesn’t need to be. You don’t need white walls, big windows, or perfectly curated decor — minimalist or maximalist.

What makes the image meaningful is you.

I’ve photographed in small London flats, busy homes, and shared spaces — and created beautiful, emotive portraits every time.

Light, love, and connection matter far more than square footage. I’m easy. I don’t need much to create images that warm the heart — just a little light and a whole lot of love.

Can Siblings or Partners Join?

Absolutely. These sessions are about your full story — which might include an older sibling learning their new role, or the quiet strength of your partner offering support.

And if you prefer the session to be just you and baby? That’s perfect too.

Why This Matters to Me

I’ve been photographing newborns and families across London for over a decade. But what I’ve learned is that the most powerful photos don’t come from perfect backdrops or Pinterest poses.

They come from real emotion.

From the quiet in-between moments. From the way you instinctively hold your baby. From the raw, soulful beauty of early motherhood.

This work matters to me because I know what it feels like to want to remember everything — but barely having time to breathe.
