There's something about East London families that I've always recognised.
Maybe because I grew up in Shoreditch, back when it was a different kind of place. Before the coffee shops and the conversion flats. I know these streets. I know the light in these homes, the high ceilings, the big sash windows, the way morning comes through Victorian terraces in Hackney and lands warm and soft on wooden floors. I know the brick-built apartments and converted council homes too. This is my home, just in a different wrapper now.

And that matters in this work.
The families I photograph in East London tend to know what they want. Not in a demanding way. In a quiet, certain way. They've thought about it. They're not looking for something generic. They want something that actually looks like their life, their home, their version of this.
That's exactly the kind of session I do best.
I work in Hackney, Hackney Wick, Bethnal Green, Shoreditch, London Fields, Limehouse, Bow, Homerton, Clapton, Dalston, and across East London. If you're further out toward Stratford or Leyton, I travel there too.
These homes photograph beautifully. Big windows. Natural light. Real texture. You don't need a perfect house. You need a house with some soul, and East London has never been short of that.
A session with me isn't directed like a shoot. It's more like a morning that happens to be documented. I show up, I read the room, I find the light, and I let things unfold. There's gentle guidance where it helps, but nothing forced. Nothing that makes you feel like you're performing.
What comes out of it is something honest. The way you hold your baby without thinking. The quiet between feeds. The way your partner looks at you both when they think no one's watching.
Those are the things worth keeping.
